| Day 34 |
| Nana Torpedo The last day. This was a very important day for me, Kim, Stuart and families as this was the end of the great adventure, "Bob's (Tug's) Walk for Kids with Cancer". The weather could not have been better, clear blue sky and sunshine and not to cold. I started the walk with Kim, niece Lisa, Christopher, Drew, the permanent team and others following. I was only going to do the first 5kms, have a rest then the last 5kms but as I got closer to the City of Canberra I decided that I would walk the whole way, which I did and Stuart joined me up front. Lisa took over the bus so that Jock could join us. Just out of town we were met by the Canberra Fire Brigade truck which escorted us all the way to the City Centre and a couple of the firemen walked along with us. We were joined by other walkers (to many to name but they know who they were) and we must have made a good sight walking up Anzac Avenue to the Naval Memorial where we were greeted by Commodore Peter Marshall, (who presented me with two $500.00 cheques) and other members of the Submarine Association who were in Canberra for Subcon08. It was an emotional moment for me as I had completed "The Walk" for Bob, who I'm sure was "up there" looking after us all the way. The Navy News, Air Force News and the Canberra times were there to cover the end of the walk. I would like to thank the permanent walkers and back up vehicle (Jock, Possum, Dale, Craig, Richard, Cathy and Barry) who gave up five weeks of their time to make "Bob's (Tug's) Walk for Kids with Cancer" the success it turned out to be. Also thanks to all the other walkers who joined us along the way. A special thank you to all the ladies who went ahead and got our lunches ready and cooked dinners for us. To all the people along the road who helped organise their areas with accommodation, functions, food and fund raising a big thank you one and all. You really were a great help to Kim in the planning and organisation of "The Walk". Last but not least, a big thank you to Graeme our webmaster, who has been on board since Bob first came up with the plan for the walk Well done and thank you for your time and efforts. I hope I haven't forgotten anyone, if I have please accept my apology. |
