| MITTAGONG TO MARULAN TO GOULBURN- Accom.. Goulburn both nights To save Graeme the extra work whilst travelling and due to inclement conditions…….. (light drizzle, low visibility to begin with and no walking permitted), we will combine these two days. Hopefully tomorrow will bring us better news all around. Today arrived and we backtracked to Marulan hoping we could walk back to Goulburn, but, alas, rain and more rain. Nana Torpedo Today was another wet day and we were unable to walk. In the afternoon the walkers walked into Goulburn on the footpath and did a bucket collection at the Centro shopping mall and the length of the main street. We then proceeded to the Goulburn Soldiers Club where we were greeted by the Mayor, Paul Stevenson who presented a cheque for $100 and the Deputy Manager of the club one for $200. We received a good write up from the Southern Highland News based in Mittagong. Tom ‘Cliffy Young shuffle’ Johnston The walk for kids with cancer has been an inspiring experience for me. I commend the Team who were there at the start and are still walking. I know for me one day was enough (for the feet). I look forward to a happy get together with you all at SubCon. Craig ‘Feathers’ Fothergill Opportunity missed on the drive to Marulan and then on to Goulburn where we are staying for two nights. Hopefully back track to Marulan today and walk the 26k to Goulburn. After 30 days of sharing accommodation with ‘Slug’ and myself, the little ‘Jockster’ deserted us for a night with the Sellars and that was after he and Pete went for a walk together….say no more. No photos of sign posts as we didn’t earn them but a good shot of a very ripe mandarine. Barry ‘Engines’ and Cathy Davis Good to see the Sellars back, even though they arrived driving the wrong way up a one way street. Bumped into Rod and Colleen (Mrs Bouquet) while walking back from Goulburn. They too were going the wrong way from the Caravan Park. Some quick instruction from Cathy and I and they ended their long days drive successfully. Hopefully plenty of walking tomorrow after a missed chance today (Monday). Tuesday – Another day, another wet weather wipeout. It’s very boring not walking. An interesting observation from the Goulburn lady Police Officer when I was handed the phone to hear her advice on highway conditions. Question (after being advised that we couldn’t walk as the weather was regarded as inclement). Do you regard cloud overcast as inclement weather? Answer- Yes. I don’t think we’d have walked far at all on this trip if we believed that was the way inclement was meant to be interpreted. Richard ‘Slug’ Lewin Day started with ‘Feathers’ waiting for a turned off kettle to boil. Good to see Mick Lynch even though it was a disappointing day. Thanks to Alex and Laurelle for their excellent catering and good to see the Sellars’ and Goulds’ back for the rest of the walk. For the second day in a row our illustrious ‘skimmer’ ( surface combatant) plugged in to the electrical system only to discover the on/off switch was once again left in the off position whilst waiting for power. Good to have had a small stretch out this afternoon as well as meeting one of our new walkers, Ian Taber. Love to Di and my Family. Raymond ‘Jock’ Copeland Left Mittagong hoping to get a walk but it was not to be. Inclement weather prevailed and we proceeded to our park at Goulburn. Pete Sellars and I went for a hard 8k walk to stop the legs stiffening up. Hopefully the weather over the next few days will improve allowing us to finish in the manner in which we started. Pete and Barb Sellars: It has been great to be back with the crew again – we’ll have great memories to take away from the trip. Engine’s is still trying to put us to the back of the line, although today on our way into Goulburn he and his mate Pete were charging ahead of the rest of us and took no notice when chastised for this breach! Cathy has filled in again with the driving of our vehicle – look out Barry, you might have to buy her one. Hopefully the weather will be kinder tomorrow. Rod and ‘Hyacinth Letitia Bouquet’ Gould Arrived back on site to be greeted with a grand welcome. Love being back with the people whose company we so much enjoyed in our first stint. Not much chance to walk but we filled in time taking the rinse out of each other. Hopefully there will be a chance to walk tomorrow. Catch ya….. Possum and Dale A soggy start to the day at "Mittagong Caravan Park", so it's decided, "To Wet and Dangerous to Walk" - we bus everyone down the track to the "Coolabah Tree Cafe" for morning tea and "TEAM MEETING" to work out What's What???? After 1 1/2 hrs. of updating computers and downloading photos, more coffee and banana cake, still "To Wet To Walk", so bus it into Goulburn (Governors' Hill Caravan Park) and set up camp to decide what to do tomorrow????? Watch this Space!!!!! Mick Lynch, who joined us early this morning, despite the foul weather, for the walk to Goulburn, found himself being bussed and was so determined to walk, that he was going to try to 'Hitch Hike" back home. B.Z. Mick from Possum!! Possum & Dale: Another wet, rainy day and the "Troops" bus back to Marulan to see if it's worthwhile to walk. (Unfortunately, No walkies today). A quick whip around Marulan, then bus it back to camp at Goulburn and prepare for lunch. A lovely Mushie soup with toast, and after lunch some lovely walnut cake and fairy cakes, (Yum Yum, there goes the diet, ha ha ha). After lunch it's decided to "Walk" into Goulburn Central, (because of the footpaths), so at 1400, we all step off, "Umbrellas' in hands, and raincoats abound". Possum and I sneak off ahead in "Goomallingdale" to do a bit of shopping before the "Troops" arrive and meet at the "Soldiers Club" with the Mayor and Club Pres. and donation "Cheques" for "W4KWC"!! A few refreshing drinks and back to camp for another lovely dinner, "Spag. Boll." and another early night sleep. |
