| Day 29 |
| CAMPBELLTOWN TO MITTAGONG Nana Torpedo We left Campbelltown on time with our new walkers, Tom Johnston, Alan Mooney, Alex Paton, Gary Paseno, Bob Allen and were joined along the road by Tony Collins and Dawn. Possum needed a rest day so I took over the backup vehicle duty which was a pleasant experience watching the goings on from the rear instead of leading the way. I managed 5kms while Jock had a rest. Alan Mooney was the express train and got out in front by miles. When we arrived in Mittagong we were met by the Deputy Mayor Paul Tuddenham and wife Fran, who presented me with a cheque on behalf of the Mayor for $200.00 which was greatly accepted. The coffers are building. The local paper did an interview. We settled down for the night to get ready for the walk to Marulan. Craig ‘Feathers’ Fothergill Dramatic start to the day but getting used to that. Nearly there and pleased at having done my bit for the children of Brisbane and Westmead. Lots of new faces captured for all to see. Barry (Engines) and Cathy Davis: Chaotic start with some disagreement occurring on vehicle positioning. Great lunch prepared and served by our new walkers ladies. Peas for lunch so I was treading on a few ducks for the next leg of the walk. Cathy was behind me and made some totally uncalled for comments. Richard (Slug) Lewin Today we welcomed five new walkers and covered 36km – four of us walked all the way. On arrival at Mittagong we farewelled Warren and Garry. Thank you for the walking. Tom Johnson pictured strutting his stuff and put in a great performance of about 20km. Love to Di and the family. Jock Copeland Decided to try for a big PB of 31km. Marched up a “dirty great big hill”, passed some mountaineers suffering from exhaustion!!! But we made it and we eventually finished up at the Mittagong Returned & Services League for a meeting with the Deputy Mayor – all went well. Everyone’s legs and feet seem fine. Possum & Dale: Appararently everyone enjoyed their stay at "Formular One Motel" & each went their own ways for dinner. I & "Goomallingdale" slept in and were AWOL. "Sorry to ALL the Team" - my intentions were NOT meant to upset ANYONE - but my "Deepest Apolligies" must go to ALL for being so single minded - I promise I will "Honour" my "Promise" to "Tug" and not do it again!!!!!! A "Special Thanks" to "Tom & Laurie Johnston" for their hospitality and to both "Laurie & Lauriel - (wife of "Alex Paton") for the superpurb lunch, they provided & to me good mate Dawn "Dangles" Collins for keeping her promise of re-joining the "Team" with a "Boiled Fruit Cake & a very delicious Carrot Cake." - YUUMMM YUM!!!! |
