| Day 26 |
| Our webmater, Graeme Caesar, is on the move this coming week heading for Canberra so the daily reports may be a little late on the website, but will be up to date by the time we reach Canberra. If you have enjoyed the www.walkforkidswithcancer.com site, don’t forget to thank him (graeme_caesar@yahoo.com.au). PENNANT HILLS TO PARRAMATTA STADIUM Nana Torpedo The dinner at Hornsby RSL was quite good with everyone enjoying their meals. The accommodation at the Scout Centre was quite comfortable. The first leg was a bit longer due to there not being any parking places along Pennant Hills Rd. We were joined by Warren Goodall and his mate Garry Collins as his backup. We walked to K13 the submarine memorial at Carlingford and had a spell and photos were taken. I went forward in the bus to meet up with Dianne and her mum Maureen Clements who joined us for the last couple of Kms which took us through the Parramatta Mall where we did a good bucket collection before walking into the Parramatta Stadium, where Kim and Lucas were waiting for us. The Stadium is our accommodation for two nights courtesy of Parramatta Leagues Club and Dennis Fitzgerald. Also the Leagues Club put on a BBQ dinner for us and will supply breakfast on Saturday before we head off to Campbelltown. I am looking forward to meeting up with Anne McFadden at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Craig ‘Feathers’ Fothergill Got up early this morning, as usual, and made breakfast of Boston beans for the troops. Took another driving day and some victual shopping at Carlingford as there were plenty of extra walkers. Hope you all like the photos of K13 and the various plaques. Sydney traffic….say no more. Beautiful BBQ at the stadium, must have a good butcher, washed down with some merlot. Looking forward to our visit to Westmead and hopefully some good photos, if I am allowed. ‘Cesspool’ left today but will hopefully catch up for the visit. Barry ‘Engines’ and Cathy Davis I forgot to mention yesterday that some young boys from Asquith Boys High School stopped us to enquire of our evil doings and after our explanation proceeded to donate their daily allowances. Well done boys. Only 18 Ks today but we did them all without a bother. A long wait in the afternoon for availability of accommodation led to Cathy and I spending up on our kids inheritance at Westfield Parramatta and the local RSL Club. Thanks to David Hinkley for providing accommodation at Parramatta Stadium. We’d forgotten how hilly Sydney is. Ray ‘Jock’ Copeland Major dramas trying to find K13 however it was located and photo sessions took place. Feathers was stressed trying to drive, talk and locate all at once and became quite cross with Possum over the airwaves. Nice bbq cooked for us for dinner. Richard ‘Slug’ Lewin The day started with Barry being asked to see if the ladies were ready for breakfast and immediately headed for the wrong cabin. A late start but not too far to travel. A wayward branch 2k in to the walk opens up a little gash in my shin and bled profusely, which proved to some that contrary to popular belief, Chief COXNS do have a heart. Further on K13 bought back some good and sad memories. Love to Di and Family Possum and Dale Highlight of my day was when the “troops” arrived at “Parramatta Stadium” “Safe and Sound”. After a really bad day with “coms”. That left me the afternoon alone to roam the streets of Parra talking to the locals – spreading “the word” about W4KWC and shopping till I dropped. Possum A short 17Km sprint to Parramatta in “Goomallingdale”. Next sleepover and layover day. A short rest at K13 memorial to remember our fallen comrades and photo shoot in Carlingford. Another photo shoot inside Parra Stadium and get ready for a BBQ put on by Dave, Kim and Stadium personnel. Thanks heaps guys & gals much appreciated. Dale |
