| Day 23 |
| BLACKSMITH’S BEACH TO TOWOON BAY Nana Torpedo We said goodbye to Maria and Mick at the Blacksmiths and having never spent time at a backpackers before I found this quite comfortable. As usual I did the first leg and conquered yet another big hill. We were met again by the Central Coast NBN News, lunch at Budgewoi then carried on and walked the last leg in to Toowoon Bay. New walkers were Tony and Dawn Collins and daughter. They gave me a large donation to add to the cause. Well done!! We are being treated to dinner at Mingara Recreation Club with much thanks’ to Aaron’s mum and family. Barry ‘Engines’ and Cathy Davis Good, long walks today. Just discarded my second set of shoes and start tomorrow with new ones bought at The Entrance. Cathy is so impressed with the accommodation here at Toowoon Bay that she has offered to stay here a couple of weeks and I can pick her up after SUBCON. Three chances Lady….. Ray ‘Jock’ Copeland Another early start so decided to try for a PB of 30km. A few injuries are appearing…Craig, possible shin splint…..Richard, just plum pooped and me, sore hip. Accom. supplied by Wyong Shire Council is outstanding. Richard ‘Slug’ Lewin What a day……My personal best of 33km. A long day’s walking and good to see Tony Collins again after a long time. Blacksmith’s Backpackers was a very nice place and doubly nice people. Thank you both very much. Love to Di and my Family Craig ‘Feathers’ Fothergill Last night met up with some very dear friends of mine from my time in the Dandenong Ranges running illicit alcohol to all and sundry. They now live within 5 minutes of last night’s stop and Marie appeared again after our first 5k leg with egg and bacon sangers and oj for all plus a $120 donation to help the kids and the promise of a bonus if I finish the trek. What a legend she is..see pictures. Think my ‘Spiderman’ leap to the ground in Port Mac may have opened up and old injury as I pulled up a bit lame today, (had nothing to do with the two bottles of red Marie and myself consumed). Managed to do only 18km but had to take over rear support from the Possumdale as the roads around here were too narrow for him to move off the road safely. Elvis led us another Engines like walk in to Toowoon. In other words there was a shorter less strenuous way to go!! Possum and Dale Had quite a few memorable experiences today. First the unexpected footage taken by NBN – the also unexpected ‘happy snaps’ taken with ‘Elvis’ and helping two lovely ladies get rescued in the middle of nowhere. Had some lovely ‘fish and chips’ in Budgewoi then on to final resting place at Toowoon Bay. Went about making some piping hot chilli concarne while the rest went out to dinner. Feed the troops tomorrow maybe! |
