| Day 15 |
| COOPERNOOK TO TAREE Sunday 18 May,2008 Nana Torpedo: First day of 3rd week. These blokes are waking up earlier each day. Today we were on the road by 7.10am. I did the first 5km and the last 3km this afternoon. In between I was in charge of the Mercedes Bus. We arrived in Taree at midday and had lunch at the Royal Hotel with Christine and Jim (sister and brother-in-law of Engine”s). I was bagged because I started skipping down the “yellow brick road” after two “chardy’s” at lunch. I only skipped because they told me to slow down. After walking out of town to our accommodation, we are now getting ready for our “pumpkin soup” being cooked by Possum. The boys are going back into town to do a bucket run but I will stay behind and catch up with the washing. See you tomorrow. Richard (Slug) Lewin: One thing Nana Torpedo forgot was that this morning Dicko took his farewells! Sad to see him go, not only for the ute, but we all thoroughly enjoyed his company. Nana beat me to the punch about skipping down the yellow brick road. I can tell you she was not skipping coming into the caravan park! Love to my wife and family. Barry (Engines)and Cathy Davis: A very cold start to the morning saw Cathy trying to volunteer me for the first stint. She thought twice about it because she knew what I might report to you about it! Met up with me sister Christine and husband Jim in Taree where we stopped at the Royal Hotel for a $5 chicken schnitzel lunch – after taking a detour to the Taree Motor Car Club to mooch some donations. In the van park now in a 7 man (and women) bungalow before heading back into Taree to see if the clubs will let us do the rounds. Barbara Sellars went steaming ahead with the money bucket on the last leg and had to be pulled back and cautioned – like husband, like wife!! Jock Copeland: Very cold start to the day, which was earlier than usual because of Craig who was up before the chooks!! Did the second stint and heard that it was snowing in Guyra. Into Taree and finished up at a car show. Lots of memories, but not one EK holden on parade. Accommodation is basic but cheap! Pete and Barb Sellars: Starting with a fine but brisk morning, we “strolled” down the highway to Taree. After a “latte” at Macca’s to warm our bones we headed into Taree for a great (and very reasonable) pub lunch. Two legs for Barb today-into a head wind coming off the snow in the New England Highlands. “Feathers” Fothergill: No daring Do fundraising feats, No spiderman antics, but was followed by “Engines” with a camera when he thought I was off “mooching”. Got some great shots of vintage cars and the memorial for all to enjoy! Bluey (Dale) and Possum: A very early start for a short 15km drive to Taree. A cool brisk morning with only a half a dozen stop-starts to get there. Spent longer in Coles Taree shopping than driving. It felt great, something out of the norm. Given our hitchhiker butterfly a burial, and Possum is grumpy as ever and says “doesn’t like early, early surprise starts”. Also says, “always been a watchkeeper, not a dayman”. |
