The Walk
Day 13
KEMPSEY to PORT MACQUARIE

Nana Torpedo (Carol)
lead car, I was sent 5 Kms down the road to wait for the walkers. I decided to count the money ready for the bank this afternoon. We
have raised $1454.10 over the last few days. We were waiting for walkers when a young lady & gentleman from Prime TV stopped to
ask some questions. They will catch up with us when we leave Taree on Monday, hopefully. The walkers carried on for another 5 Kms
whilst Barbara Sellars and I went into Port Macquarie to do the banking. Our grand total as of today is $42649.30. This is becoming
overwhelming.

Barry (Engines) & Cathy(Mrs Engines) Davis
Last nights dinner (made by Cathy) was everything in a pot & curried (yummy). Cathy also boiled up curried eggs for todays lunch. We
had baked beans for breakfast. Nobody wanted to walk in the rear all day. Adrian (Pete) Sellars deliberately disobeyed Standing
Orders by streaking ahead of the pack out of hearing range & was subsequently reported to the Coxwain (Richard) and sent to the
back of the pack (a non-preferred position after what we’d been eating). We ended the day with a casual stroll for 6 Kms into Port
Macquarie accosting people for a donation. I can still hear Richards (Slug) plaintive cry “are we there yet?”

(Jock) Copeland
Interesting day with a few walkers doing mega miles. I was not one of them, having done only 13 Km. Weather started badly but
improved during the morning. One of my walks could have been almost fatal for us. A truck went past with a stick protruding horizontally
from the side at knee height. We were on a narrow part of the road and even though we kept to the left, it missed us by centimeters.
POINT TAKEN. This walk can be dangerous.

Richard (Slug) Lewin (Coxwain)
A very long days walk. No casuals available did not help but we made it to the outskirts of Port Macquarie. Out we got Craig, Dicko,
Engines and me. Engines continually assuring us that it was not too far to go. Take it from me “ENGINEER OFFICERS STRETCH THE
TRUTH”.

Keith (Dicko) Dickson
Made it. 24 Kms today. Footsore and weary but very happy. It was a very good day but I’m quite happy to settle down for the night.

Craig (Feathers- Minnie the Moocher) Fothergill
I took the opportunity to visit Telegraph Point  Public School and all the children came out to line the roadway as the walkers headed for
the lunch break by the river. Cheers, shouts and high fives all around and promises of “I want to join the Navy when I grow up”.
